Icon Analysis

Icon Analysis

Icons can be represented as many different people, places or things. They usually symbolize something larger than themselves, and oftentimes are confused with actual images or logos.

I have chosen three icons that hold a significant amount of value to what I consider important:

1. Hayao Miyazaki

2. The company Nintendo

3. A Dragon

HAYAO MIYAZAKI

Hayao Miyazaki is the director of a handful of successful films such as "Spirited Away", Princess Mononoke", and "Howls Moving Castle". All these films have been widely popular in many countries, and have brought in an outstanding amount of revenue overall. Miyazaki has even been titled "The greatest animation director in Japan". Miysazaki is iconic, not only because of what he's accomplished, but also for having his name being linked to "the greatest animated films of all time". He is an inspiration to those who wish to animate, and a spark of joy in anyone's heart who enjoys what he bring to life. This icon means a lot to me because I fist found my love of drawing through Miyzaki. His films were ones I grew up with, and I don't think I'd have the same sense of wonder and creativity if it wasn't for his films.

NINTENDO

The Nintendo Company has been around making video games for over thirty years now...and has existed for almost 130 years! While the company can't always be as competitive as Sony or Microsoft are in the competitive video game industry- Nintendo never disappoints with any new title that has to do with their gold titles like Mario, The Legend of Zelda or Pokemon. Nintendo is iconic in many ways too, beginning with the Nintendo Wii and how it was the very first to introduce wireless game play. Not soon after the system set the stage for this new wave of gaming, other companies (Like Sony and Microsoft) made their own versions to incorporate into their systems. That's only one example! As previously stated, Nintendo never seems to disappoint their fans with the titles they come out with, even when the company doesn't meet the strong competitive standards that Sony and Microsoft do. This is unique for a company to have such a devoted fan base, and the staff at Nintendo always seem to listen to their followers...and oftentimes deliver on what people ask for. Nintendo is iconic to me because I played nothing but Nintendo games growing up; I still do now! This company is the reason I started playing video games in the first place, and I know I can't be the only one. Nintendo offers extremely lovable and excitable game play for all ages...and that stands out to everyone all over the world!

DRAGONS

This mythological creature is a symbol of power, intelligence and chaos throughout many cultures, myths and things alike. Dragons can iconic for all kinds of different reasons, however, the most popular thing they are iconic for is their representation of fantasy. When people mention fantasy...either as a genre or as a topic, usually the first thing that they might think of would be dragons. These creatures have always fascinated me, and I quickly become rather obsessed with them as I grew up. I drew them, I wrote stories with them in it, I felt stronger when I thought of dragons. As strange as this sounds...dragons helped me feel more confident when I was younger. I certainly wasn't a sort of "crazy cat lady" with them, but when I was afraid, or bullied, I went back to films I've seen with dragons, or stories I wrote...and felt braver. Be fiery, be strong! Be who you are and be proud. Dragons are iconic to me because of the strength they represent, and the fascination I have with their mythology.
